Smith Opera House

Impressed by an unknown local band called the Sex Pistols, TV personality Tony Wilson (Steve Coogan) creates a uniquely anarchic record label called Factory Records in 1978. Mixing actual archival footage with stellar performances, 24 Hour Party People captures the anarchy, excitement, and hedonism of a crucial moment in music history. Hailed by The New York Times as “magnificent” and “a blast” by Rolling Stone, ?this chronicle of the Manchester music scene’s rise and fall “shines,” as Roger Ebert put it, “with a kind of inspired madness.”

This film is part of The Smith’s BritPop Series and is sponsored by Hobart and William Smith Colleges. HWS students, faculty and staff are admitted free with valid ID.
