ABOUT AS GOOD AS IT GETS

Melvin Udall (Jack Nicholson) is an obsessive-compulsive writer of romantic fiction who’s rude to everyone he meets, including his gay neighbor Simon (Greg Kinnear).  When he has to look after Simon’s dog, he begins to soften and finds he can conduct a relationship with the only waitress (Helen Hunt) at the local diner who’ll serve him.

Click here to join our post-film Zoom discussion.

This weeks Zoom discussion will be moderated by writer and dog lover Mark H. Anbinder!

Mark H. Anbinder is a higher education communications professional working at Cornell University, specializing in writing and social media for Cornell’s Campus Life division. He’s lived in Ithaca for 35 years, sampling the area’s fine food and drink, with a particular interest in the locavore movement — locally grown produce, meats, beer, wine, and spirits — not to mention local music and sports, especially hockey, and he’s a voracious photographer. All this serves him well in his role as a dining, news, and entertainment writer for Ithaca’s 28-year-old 14850 Magazine, which he co-owns. Mark’s also a big advocate for rescue dogs and the organizations that help them, has two rescue dogs of his own, and often sees the positive effect a dog can have on a person’s outlook on life.
