Geneva Concerts

Geneva Concerts is pleased to bring the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra to the Finger Lakes.

Beloved Conductor Laureate Christopher Seaman will lead the orchestra, and emerging violinist Simone Porter is the soloist.

The concert takes place Friday, October 18, 7:30 p.m. at the Smith Opera House, 82 Seneca Street, Geneva. There will be a Pre-Concert Talk at 6:30 p.m. in the theater. All ticket holders are invited to attend.

The orchestra begins the concert with Hindemith’s Symphonic Metamorphosis. The program continues with Porter performing Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1, described by Classic FM as “one of the best works of the Romantic period.” The evening concludes with Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4.

Violinist Simone Porter has been recognized as an emerging artist of impassioned energy, interpretive integrity, and vibrant communication.  Born in 1996, Simone made her professional solo debut at age 10 with the Seattle Symphony and her international debut with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London at age 13. Her emergence on the international concert circuit occurred simultaneously with her studies at the Colburn Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles.

A 2015/16 Performance Today Young-Artist-in-Residence, Simone’s performances and interviews have been broadcast nationally on the APM syndicated network on several different occasions.  She has also been featured on the renowned syndicated NPR radio program “From the Top,” hosted by Christopher O’Riley and featuring America’s best young classical musicians.

Raised in Seattle, Simone made a rousing homecoming return engagement with the Seattle Symphony in 2016.

In the past few years she has debuted with the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic; and with a number of renowned conductors, including Gustavo Dudamel, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Stéphane Denève, Nicholas McGegan, Ludovic Morlot, and Donald Runnicles.

[Porter’s] assured, lovingly lyrical, occasionally frisky playing only confirmed what is becoming common knowledge in the musical world: that she is on the cusp of a major career.
