Geneva Light Opera presents Donizetti’s comic opera “La Fille du Regiment” in live performances on

at the Smith Opera House in Geneva, New York.

Donizetti’s comic opera, “La Fille du Regiment” (“The Daughter of the Regiment”), was a favorite of Swedish Nightingale Jenny Lind and twentieth century opera star Joan Sutherland, and just finished a popular run at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City in May, 2026. It features French folk tunes, cadenzas, lots of high notes–and the unusual tale of a child raised by a regiment of soldiers who rescued her during a battle. (As the opera opens, she is charming—and old enough to fall in love with someone of whom the Regiment disapproves).
