GENEVA, NY – The Smith Opera House is thrilled to welcome legendary Irish traditional band Altan on Friday, March 13 at 7:30 PM. Celebrating forty years of bringing their vibrant music to audiences around the world, Altan has graced iconic stages including Carnegie Hall and the Sydney Opera House, and now they bring their unmistakable sound to The Smith!
Altan has long been regarded as true tradition bearers, remaining at the forefront of traditional Irish music for four decades. In 1995, Altan made history as the first Irish traditional band signed to a major label, Virgin Records. Their latest album, Donegal, released in 2024, has received widespread critical acclaim. As The Boston Globe declared, they are “the hottest group in the Celtic realm!”
The performance will feature the band’s original members, lead singer and fiddler, Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh, Ciaran Curran (bouzouki) and Mark Kelly (guitar,) accompanied by accordion player Martin Tourish, and their newest member, fiddler and singer, Clare Friel.
