Welcome to the Smith Opera House Technical Services department.
We stand ready, willing and able to do whatever we can to help your event run as smoothly and professionally as possible. Some of the services we can provide include:
Small to medium concerts, plays, dance shows and other events can be handled in-house. If additional equipment is required, we can outsource whatever is needed. Major concert events often call for an outside contractor. We can put the job out to bid, or use the contractor of your choice. Either way, we will work to assure that everything goes as desired.
We are equipped to provide mono or stereo sound support for public speakers, recorded sound tracks (Dance etc.) or vocal soloists. Medium and larger concerts generally require the services of an outside sound technician. We have several sound companies that we work with regularly and can make the necessary arrangements. Or we can work with sound engineers of your choice.
We can arrange the stage in a number of configurations, depending on your needs. Whether you want the full depth of the stage for a large concert or a mid-stage black or gold drape for a smaller show. Or if you want to hang your own drops – we can adapt to your needs.
Loading Crews/Running Crews
Need help unloading your trucks and setting up for the show? Does your show call for stagehands, flymen, lighting, followspot or sound operators? We will provide whatever you need. Have your own crew? We can work with them – however certain hazardous tasks must be handled by our own staff. (See “Policies” below.)
Due to new fire code regulations the use of fog or haze is prohibited at any time in the theatre.
No smoking is permitted anywhere in the Smith Opera House at any time. This includes the stage and the dressing rooms.
Please, do not use duct tape on the stage or in the house. Theatrical Gaffer tape and spike tape are available from any theatrical supplier, or can be obtained from the SOH Technical Services dept.
Any changes to or operation of the fly system, electrical tie-ins, and light hangs in the box booms must be handled by authorized Smith Opera House personnel.
Concert volume must not exceed 100 Db. (‘A’ weighted average slow-response measured from the centre mix position.)
