Geneva Music Festival 2022: “From Sea to Shining Sea”
Geoffrey Herd, violin; Ettore Cause, viola; Hannah Collins, Clive Greensmith, cello; Jon Kimura Parker, pian
Jon Kimura Parker and Clive Greensmith join GMF musicians Ettore Causa, Hannah Collins, and Geoffrey Herd to explore trends that shaped American music and culture. From the groovy virtuosity of Chick Correa’s “Got a Match,” to Barber’s emotionally cathartic Molto adagio, to Florence Price’s spiritual-infused Piano Quintet in E minor, this concert is a sonic panorama of the country’s musical traditions. Antonin Dvořák’s own incorporation of Bohemian folk music (exemplified in his Piano Quartet in E-flat Major) serves as an example for American composers in search of a national sound.
